George R.R. Martin Working on FromSoftware Game

Rumor: George R.R. Martin Working on FromSoftware Game

A new rumor indicates that George R.R. Martin is working on a FromSoftware game in some capacity. George R.R. Martin is an accomplished author best known for his series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO show Game of Thrones. In an update on his Not A Blog blog, George R.R. Martin confirmed that he had been, at the very least, consulting on a Japanese video game.

Here’s the relevant paragraph from his blog:

And me? I’m still here, and I’m still busy. As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel. I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.

In March, YouTube channel Spawn Wave published a video talking about FromSoftware’s next project, which would involve traveling to different kingdoms in an open world and defeating the leaders of those kingdoms, acquiring more power in the process. This video also claimed that George R.R. Martin was one of the writers for the game.

According to Gematsu’s sources this new project, known as “GR”, is the result of a collaboration between George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, the President of FromSoftware. The game will be open-world with horseback riding and a full reveal will take place at the Xbox E3 2019 conference.

The Xbox E3 2019 conference isn’t too far away, so we should have an answer soon. We’ll be covering all the announcements made, both on our website and with someone at the conference.
