First Trailer for DC’s Krypton Arrives Online

We’ve had Smallville, we’ve had Gotham, and now we’ll soon see the arrival of Krypton. DC sure love a prequel series don’t they? Whilst Smallville and Gotham focused on young Superman and Batman respectively, this new show will jump much further back in time to Kal-El’s grandparents.

It’s been a long time coming, with the show being officially announced way back in 2014. Since then only drips of information about the it have made it online, so this new trailer has come as somewhat of a shock. It has to be said that it’s a pleasant surprise though, because it looks rather spectacular. Check out the trailer below.

Whilst it’s not been confirmed as of yet, it seems like the show will serve as a prequel to DC’s cinematic universe. There are numerous reasons why this a smart bet. The aesthetic of the show seems to fit rather well with the Krypton seen in Man of Steel with its slickness, colours and designs of both places and costumes matching up well. There is also that famous house crest which pops up time and again here which looks very similar to the one seen in the DCEU. If that’s not enough the writer is David S. Goyer, the man behind Man of Steel.

A few details about the characters and plotlines are known, so if you want to avoid any potential spoilers (however small) look away now.

Krypton will focus on Kal-El’s grandfather Seg-El (played by Cameron Cuffe), an intelligent man who is suffering because his family has been stripped of their rank. Georgina Campbell will be Lyta Zod, daughter of the general and secret partner of Seg-El. Yep, that’s right: an El/Zod secret romance. However, don’t be disheartened if that’s not your thing because the show will also be action-filled as the trailer hinted. Ian McElhinney’s Val-El, Seg-El’s own grandfather, is an advocate of space exploration and tries to warn others about an ancient threat that looms.

There is no confirmed air date yet for the pilot of Krypton and no news how many episodes the first season will be.
