EA To Shut Down Visceral Games; Changes Planned For Upcoming Star Wars Game

Electronic Arts has announced the impending closure of Visceral Games on their website today. The studio was working on a linear single player game set in the Star Wars universe. That game will now be led by a development team from EA Vancouver. The release date has also been delayed from an estimated 2019 launch to an undetermined timeframe.

The wording in the announcement seems to indicate that what was once a single player game will now incorporate features typical of “Games as a Service” titles. “Importantly, we are shifting the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore,” wrote Patrick Söderlund, Executive Vice President of EA.

Visceral Games is best known for the Dead Space series.

We at TICGN wish all the best for the displaced developers from Visceral Games.
