Don’t Breathe Takes the Box Office for a Second Week

The Summer movie season is coming to an end with this Labor Day Weekend. This is usually the weekend when people don’t really go out to the theatre to watch movies. For the second weekend in a row the horror movie Don’t Breathe has taken control of the box office. Right behind this movie at number two is the critically hated Suicide Squad, right on it’s way to $300 million domestically.

This weekend was so slow that a movie that fell so fast actually made it back into the top three. Pete’s Dragon made $8.5 million making it rise from number six to number four. It has to be a slow weekend for theaters when this movie jumps back into the spotlight. The totals below are using the full four day weekend, normally it just covers a regular weekend of three days.

Top 5 Weekend Movies

  1. Don’t Breathe $15.8 million
  2. Suicide Squad $12.8 million
  3. Pete’s Dragon $8.5 million
  4. Kubo and the Two Strings $8.5 million
  5. Sausage Party $6.5 million

With this final push Suicide Squad has finally reached $300 million domestically and $375 million internationally bringing the total to $675 million. This isn’t the numbers that those Marvel movies pull in, DC still has plenty of other movies coming out in the next few years that can bring in that coveted billion dollars. Look out for Wonder Women and Justice League in the next two years.

Next weekend the movie Sully could easily take one of the top three spots. This movie follows the true story of pilot  Chelsey Sullenburger as he is forced to land his plane that just took off into the frigid Hudson River. This movie features Tom Hanks as Sullenburger and is directed by Clint Eastwood. Let us know how you feel about the movies that came out this past Summer.
