Gamers are a passionate, eccentric and unique group of people. What makes them tick? Why did they get into gaming in the first place? Who or what inspired them? These are questions that I’ve always been fascinated to learn about. This is what ‘Meet The Gamer’ is all about. To find out the answers, I will be reaching out and interviewing members of the gaming community including gamers and developers. Over and out, Agent Charisma.
Welcome to Meet The Gamer 2018!
Up first is Harriet an Xbox gamer from the UK. Her Gamer Tag is Harrioot.
What is your preferred gaming platform?
What is your Gamer Tag and the reason for choosing it?
Harrioot, it’s a relatively dull reason. My real name is Harriet so it’s more a play on that.
What is your favourite genre/s of game and why?
I’m a huge RPG fan. I’ve loved them since Morrowind was released in 2002. I find it’s the easiest way to escape and throw yourself into a fantasy world, you can get lost for however many hours you need to, be the hero or villain you want.
What is your favourite game of all time?
This is a pretty impossible question! If I had to pick I’d say Morrowind. It’s the first game I really lost myself to. It got me through some tough times and it was groundbreaking for its era. The graphics, the music and gameplay, and story were all perfect. It’s a game that helped shape who I am today!
What is your most memorable gaming moment?
The final moments of my team’s 24-hour charity stream for Macmillan Cancer. We manage to get through a full 24 hours playing Sea of Thieves without any rests!
Which achievement has given you the most pleasure? Why and how long did it take you?
Completing the Temple of Crota on Destiny for the first time with ZERO tutorials or walkthroughs. It was super tough and took HOURS but by the time we’d completed it, I felt like I’d really achieved something! In hindsight, we maybe should’ve done it with a walkthrough though.
What is your Gamerscore and how long has it taken you to get it?
5340! I’ve never cared about it too much but I rerolled my GT and account a couple years ago.
What is your gaming guilty pleasure?
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. The Sims in Piñata form, grossly underestimated and just adorable. Always makes me happy. Even though I’m certain they used Comic Sans font.
If you could pick a video game character, who would you be and why?
Spyro because why wouldn’t you want to be a little purple dragon?
If you could pick a location, from any game, to visit, where would it be and why?
Tamriel. It’s absolutely beautiful, if a little dangerous. I’d just spend my time fishing and visiting places, wearing beautiful robes and hanging out in taverns with some handsome Dunmer. Is that weird?
Finally, where do you see gaming heading in the next decade?
VR seems to be on a slow burn but I’m hoping we see more of it! I’m hoping we see more games that embrace the community aspect like Sea of Thieves, getting players to come together to achieve things in a game.
Special thanks to Harrioot for taking the time to answer our questions. Keep an eye on the website and Twitter for information on how you can feature in the next Meet the Gamer.
