This was an upset that I just wasn’t expecting to see. Blade Runner 2049 dropped down to second place in the domestic top ten box office movies. I really thought more people would go out and watch this movie.

Happy Death Day took  in an estimated $26 million this weekend on a budget of $4 million. This is just another win for Blumehouse Productions, who also released Get Out and Split this year. They continue to bring horror fans great movies on smaller budgets. Happy Death Day mixes the classic Groundhog Day with slasher horror. Actress Jessica Rothe takes the role of Theresa “Tree” Gelbman who has to die over and over again on her birthday. She eventually decides she needs to find out who her killer is and stop them before this never ending loop keeps going. Blade Runner 2049 made $15 million while the other new movie that was released, The Foreigner, featuring Jackie Chan made $12.8 million.
