The hit movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has again taken the top spot this weekend. With very little competition since only Winchester was released this weekend, it was an easy pick for movie goers that wanted to see a movie they may have missed out on.

Winchester is the only movie that was released this weekend domestically in a large number of theaters. It came in at number three with $9 million. The movie follows the “true” story of the cursed Winchester Mansion in San Jose (CA). I don’t think I’ll ever take the four hour drive to see this mansion in person or watch this movie. I would rather see Alcatraz. Last weekend, Maze Runner: The Death Cure was on top as Jumanji took first. The difference between first and second place is an estimated $800,000. At this point, Jumanji is sitting at $855 million world-wide. The only way this movie will cross a billion is if it has no competition and sees a huge resurgence in popularity. It may never reach that goal.

Weekend Top Five

5. Hostiles $5.5 million

4. The Greatest Showman $7.8 million

3. Winchester $9.2 million

2. Maze Runner: The Death Cure $10 million

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $11 million

Next weekend, three movies will be released domestically that have the opportunity to open in the top five. Peter Rabbit, Fifty Shades Freed, and The 15:17 to Paris will be opening in a wide release. Given that Valentine’s Day is almost here, it should be a no brainer that the Fifty Shades movie should be on top. Any movie that makes it to the top next week will probably be short lived. Black Panther is coming out on February 16th and this movie is looking to take the top spot.
