Lucasfilm has announced the cast for an upcoming live action series set within the Star Wars universe. The new show will be called The Mandalorian and features Pedro Pascal in the starring role of a gunfighter on the edge of the galaxy. If Pascal’s name sounds familiar to you then you may have seen him on Game of Thrones or on the Netflix series Narcos. The cast is rounded out by Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky, The Predator), Nick Nolte (Affliction), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Omid Abtahi (American Gods).

The Executive Producer of the series, Jon Favreau, seems to be rather enthusiastic about this cast. “We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” said Favreau.

The first episode of The Mandalorian will be directed by Dave Filoni who will also be an executive producer for the show. The series is scheduled to debut in late 2019 on Disney+, an upcoming streaming service for Disney content.

Pedro Pascal is an interesting choice for the lead role of a Star Wars production. The old tradition for Star Wars films was to cast relatively unknown actors in starring roles. Pascal actually has quite an extensive filmography under his belt including stints on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Great Wall and has even lent his voice talents to Dishonored 2.
